The Rock cavy is from the family Caviidae (genus: Kerodon). It is usually born with about 82 grams (0.18 lbs). They can live for up to 11 years. When reaching adult age, they grow up to 10.2 cm (0′ 5″). On average, Rock cavys can have babies 5 times per year with a litter size of 1.

The rock cavy or mocó (Kerodon rupestris) is a cavy species endemic to eastern Brazil, from eastern Piauí state to Minas Gerais state. It has been introduced to the oceanic island of Fernando de Noronha.
