What is the maximal age a White-eared opossum reaches?
An adult White-eared opossum (Didelphis albiventris) usually gets as old as 1.67 years.
White-eared opossums are around 12 days in the womb of their mother. When born, they weight 4 grams (0.01 lbs) and measure 3.6 cm (0′ 2″). As a member of the Didelphidae family (genus: Didelphis), a White-eared opossum caries out around 6 little ones per pregnancy, which happens around 1 times a year. Fully grown, they reach a bodylength of 36 cm (1′ 3″).
As a reference: Usually, humans get as old as 100 years, with the average being around 75 years. After being carried in the belly of their mother for 280 days (40 weeks), they grow to an average size of 1.65m (5′ 5″) and weight in at 62 kg (137 lbs), which is obviously highly individual.
The white-eared opossum (Didelphis albiventris) is an opossum species found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is a terrestrial and, sometimes, arboreal animal, and a habitat generalist, living in a wide range of different habitats. For some time, this species was incorrectly known by the name D. azarae, correctly applied to the big-eared opossum. This led to azarae’s discontinuation as a species name. From 1993 until 2002, this species also included the Guianan white-eared opossum (D. imperfecta) and the Andean white-eared opossum (D. pernigra) as subspecies. It is the team mascot of Clube NĂ¡utico Capibaribe, a Brazilian football team from Recife, Pernambuco.
