How many babies does a Dobson’s shrew tenrec have at once? (litter size)

How many baby Dobson’s shrew tenrecs are in a litter?

A Dobson’s shrew tenrec (Microgale dobsoni) usually gives birth to around 2 babies.

Each of those little ones spend around 61 days as a fetus before they are released into the wild. Upon birth, they weight 3 grams (0.01 lbs) and measure 4.3 cm (0′ 2″). They are a member of the Tenrecidae family (genus: Microgale). An adult Dobson’s shrew tenrec grows up to a size of 7.5 cm (0′ 3″).

To have a reference: Humans obviously usually have a litter size of one ;). Their babies are in the womb of their mother for 280 days (40 weeks) and reach an average size of 1.65m (5′ 5″). They weight in at 62 kg (137 lbs), which is obviously highly individual, and reach an average age of 75 years.

The average litter size of a Dobson's shrew tenrec is 2

Dobson’s shrew tenrec (Nesogale dobsoni) is a species of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, plantations, and heavily degraded former forest. On the basis of molecular data indicating that it and Talazac’s shrew tenrec form a sister group to the rest of Microgale, these two species were transferred from Microgale to Nesogale in 2016.
