It is hard to guess what a Belding’s ground squirrel weights. But we have the answer:
An adult Belding’s ground squirrel (Spermophilus beldingi) on average weights 272 grams (0.6 lbs).
The Belding’s ground squirrel is from the family Sciuridae (genus: Spermophilus). It is usually born with about 6 grams (0.01 lbs). When reaching adult age, they grow up to 23.6 cm (0′ 10″). On average, Belding’s ground squirrels can have babies 1 times per year with a litter size of 5.
As a reference: An average human weights in at 62 kg (137 lbs) and reaches an average size of 1.65m (5′ 5″). Humans spend 280 days (40 weeks) in the womb of their mother and reach around 75 years of age.
Belding’s ground squirrel (Urocitellus beldingi), also called pot gut, sage rat or picket-pin, is a squirrel that lives on mountains in the western United States. In California, it often is found at 6,500 to 11,800 feet (2,000–3,600 m) in meadows between Lake Tahoe and Kings Canyon. This species is not of conservation concern, and its range includes some protected areas.
