An adult McIlhenny’s four-eyed opossum (Philander mcilhennyi) usually gets as old as 2.25 years.
When born, they weight 8 grams (0.02 lbs) and measure 2.9 cm (0′ 2″). They are a member of the Didelphidae family (genus: Philander). Fully grown, they reach a bodylength of 45.3 cm (1′ 6″).
As a reference: Usually, humans get as old as 100 years, with the average being around 75 years. After being carried in the belly of their mother for 280 days (40 weeks), they grow to an average size of 1.65m (5′ 5″) and weight in at 62 kg (137 lbs), which is obviously highly individual.
McIlhenny’s four-eyed opossum (Philander mcilhennyi) is a South American species of Opossum. Found in Brazil and Peru, it is almost entirely black, except for white spots above each eye.This species is named for John Stauffer “Jack” McIlhenny (1909-1997), a grandson of the founder of the McIlhenny Company, maker of Tabasco sauce. He funded the 1968 Louisiana State University expedition that discovered the species.
