The Black-mantled tamarin is from the family Callitrichidae (genus: Saguinus). It is usually born with about 43 grams (0.09 lbs). They can live for up to 15.17 years. When reaching adult age, they grow up to 26.5 cm (0′ 11″). Usually, Black-mantled tamarins have 1 babies per litter.

The female gives birth to 2 young after a gestation of 140 to 150 days. It mainly eats insects, leaves, and fruit.
