It is hard to guess what a Dobson’s shrew tenrec weights. But we have the answer:
An adult Dobson’s shrew tenrec (Microgale dobsoni) on average weights 37 grams (0.08 lbs).
The Dobson’s shrew tenrec is from the family Tenrecidae (genus: Microgale). It is usually born with about 3 grams (0.01 lbs). They can live for up to 5.58 years. When reaching adult age, they grow up to 6.3 cm (0′ 3″). Usually, Dobson’s shrew tenrecs have 2 babies per litter.
As a reference: An average human weights in at 62 kg (137 lbs) and reaches an average size of 1.65m (5′ 5″). Humans spend 280 days (40 weeks) in the womb of their mother and reach around 75 years of age.
Dobson’s shrew tenrec (Nesogale dobsoni) is a species of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, plantations, and heavily degraded former forest. On the basis of molecular data indicating that it and Talazac’s shrew tenrec form a sister group to the rest of Microgale, these two species were transferred from Microgale to Nesogale in 2016.
